Client: Kelsey Tucker is the writer and producer of “The Competition,” an Oregon made feature film starring Thora Birch, and Chris Kline. The film was written, filmed, and finalized in Oregon. 9iFX was honored to be the Oregonian VFX studio that handled all of the visual effects.
Problem: As with all modern film productions, visual effects and post production clean-up are a necessity—not just a nicety. The problem for many productions is to find the right combination of artistry and technical skill that responds to the budgetary and timeline realities of the project. The film’s writer, Kelsey Tucker, looked into several VFX options that were not going to fit the bill.
Solution: 9iFX stepped in to deliver a variety of visual effects for this feature: animating a sexy CG avatar, reconstructing Thora Birch’s face in order to paint out bad reflections, cleanup and rig removal, and matte painting. This project gave us the opportunity to crack our technical knuckles and satisfy the Hollywood itch that drew us to this business in the first place.
Result: “The Competition” now has the technical and visual polish that is required to get noticed by festivals, producers and distributors.
Feedback: ”Michael Miller and the entire team at 9iFX were just awesome. We had a tight delivery schedule and specific VFX requirements. Michael met with me immediately with a smile on his face, samples on his laptop, and a very reasonable bid. Their work was the highest quality and everyone on our producing team was thrilled. Anything we asked for, they could deliver quickly and at a reasonable cost. From roto work to skydive silhouettes to complicated webpage motion graphics inserted over our computer screens, they nailed it every time. I’d use them again in a heartbeat. Oregon should be proud of this very talented VFX team.” – Kelsey Tucker, The Theory Inc.
