Key Art Animations
for THE EMMYS

9iFX Delivers Stellar Animations for Television’s Biggest Night of the Year.

CLIENT: THE EMMY AWARDS

9iFX was thrilled when The Other House brought us in to animate their gossamer designs for the Key Art for 69th annual Emmy Awards. We did the modeling, texturing and animation, and delivered the final pieces in ultra-high resolution files at 60 frames per second.

CONCEPT

Our creative partners at The Other House designed the overall look and feel of the branding for the Awards ceremony, beating out the competition. They then tapped the 9iFX team to bring their ultra high-resolution still image to ephemeral life.

PROCESS

We started with an animatic – a low resolution, basic 3D rendering of the project that we could use to ensure the desired movement. After introducing particle simulations to the animatic to determine the desired fall pattern, we set out modeling and animating the finished product – all in 4K footage.

CONCLUSION

We created a 48 second looping 360º view of the statuette that was featured on Emmys Ceremony stage, a couple of close-up shots of the star dust coagulating to form various parts of the statuette and a rendition of the Emmys logo raining down with glittering particles. The piece also won a gold International Design Award.

BEHIND THE SCREENS

Animatic

Before arriving at the ultra high gloss of the final product, we went through many lower resolution passes to ensure that we would achieve the desired look.

Simulation

The shimmery gold dust effect was created using particle simulations. There was much debate about how much flaking there should be, so we whipped up this lower resolution sample during the creative development process.
